This holiday season I hope you have the gift of loving family and friends. That the quilts we make for them are welcomed and appreciated. I hope the recipients understand the love and care we use when we make them. For many of us, it is the process of quilt making that gives up peace and contentment. The fact that when we are done, we have a completed quilt is just a bonus. It's the process that lets us play with many colors and patterns that we would never put on our walls. With quilt making we get to put a little chartreuse with raspberry pink and periwinkle and have it come out stunning. With quilt making we get to feel a connection to the past. We get to play with civil war and feed sack reproductions. We step back in time to appreciate the work and necessity that quilts once were. It's also a time to feel grateful for all we have now. If your family and friends no longer need anymore quilts, I hope you can look to those who do. There are so many organizations and charitable groups that will appreciate your work. Rather than a gift of your efforts, it gives you the gift to keep quilting. I hope you realize that the talents you have can reach so many. I hope family and friends support your passion without having to understand it. There is a special kind of crazy that makes us take beautiful fabric and cut it into little pieces and sew it back together. Not everyone is blessed with this drive and vision. Not everyone can see the gift and process of creating. I hope your family and friends can recognize the light in your eyes when you talk about your quilting. This coming year, I hope you can make the effort to share your talents, not just by creating, but by mentoring a new quilter, family member, friend or neighbor. This year I hope you continue to improve your quilting talent. I hope you can learn a new pattern or technique. I also hope you find less fault in your work. I hope that when you look at your finished quilt, you don't look at where the seams are not perfectly matched. I want you to bask in the glory on the place on that quilt where everything was in perfect alignment. Every quilt has those two spots. Focus on the glory!!
